Happy Halloween, Biola Style.

Yep, I’m in class.
Not like I like Halloween anyways, but still. There’s something about
being in class when the prevailing opinion is that you should not be.

Tonight after I get out I’m going over to Sarah’s to continue our 2 year
tradition of watching “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. That’s what my
idea of a fun halloween is, but that’s just me.

All my professors suffer from something I like to call
Projectocentrasism. That is - the belief in and the vehement defense of
the position that the project in their class, is the only project in the
whole world. I’m serious…they’re all nuts. The only class I don’t
have a huge project in is Ping Pong and Acts. Acts I have a couple
papers but I’m talking projects here, not papers.
I’ve got a huge one in Strategic Management that I’m sure won’t matter
how hard I try to pass I’ll fail. I have a fat PhP mysql one in my
Database Management class - don’t know how I’m going to do that. In
Systems Analysis and Design I have to build a project plan for an plant
asset tracking system. In Theology, Morality & Culture I have a
research thing that won’t be that hard but…time consuming.

On top of all this, I’m in a accelerated pace class that started last
week, much to my shock, and I have to get caught up on a significant
portion of work. For being behind for just one week…but its really two
weeks cuz ya…accelerated pace.

So I’m not sure how I’m going to do all of this, especially since its
all due around the same time. I think I’m going to have make some value
judgments on what’s most critical for graduation.

Its too much I can’t do all this crap well - some will have to be done
poorly.
Ugh…

I always wondered where the phrase “by hook or by crook” came from.
One google search later reveals,

“The most popular theory for the origin of by hook or by crook is as follows: In medieval England, the forests belonged to the sovereign, and no one was allowed to cut timber. The peasants were, however, allowed to take any deadwood that they could reach with a shepherd’s crook or cut off with the sharp blade of a reaper’s billhook — by hook or by crook. This theory has been applied to all of the forests and also limited to certain manors and their tenants. There is even a specific person associated with it: In 1100, William II, also known as William Rufus, was slain by an archer in the New Forest. His body was found by a charcoal-burner named Purkess (or Purkiss), who placed it on his cart and carried it to Winchester. Purkess was rewarded with permission to gather all the wood he could reach by hook or by crook (he must have gathered a sufficient amount to support his family, for it is said that his descendants still live in the New Forest).”

Thank you Word Maven.

Things I realize I want -

These are in no particular order other than they way they struck me at
11:30 at night on a Monday. They’re just things that occured to me that
I want in my life.

A house on a piece of land
Neighbors that I have relationships with
A sports team that I can be a diehard fan for
A growing library of books that I’ve read

Waiting

I’m sitting in the collegium waiting for class to start.
I really don’t like this part of the day, monday.

My brodey Andy put his new song up on his blog which you can find in the
sidebar “Cosmic Mixtape” aka “Andy’s Blog”. It’s one of the catchier
songs I’ve heard of late; nice melody and sweet female harmonies. As
for lyrics, listen to the song - not of the insightful calibre that I’d
expect from the man who brings you such theorems as, “I hump therefore I
am.” More angsty.

In other news, I bought Donkey Konga so my jungle beat is rockin. Its
actually really fun, much enjoyment.

WARNING: Long WoW post ahead.

The WoW factor ranks high this week.
Leafwind hit 48, she’s a lean mean feral machine.
Harai, my horde Priest, got to 18 and has been playing Warsong Gulch -
the capture the flag battleground (BG). It has been crazy fun, Priest’s
in BG’s are mad powerful, throwing up shields, aoe fear, damage over
time abilties, healing. Basically their power translates into them
being the main target of the opposition. I’m not saying that I’m the
key to victory or anything, but lets put it this way: there is a very
strong correlation between the amount of time and effort they put into
killing me and their success rate in the conflict. I find that when
they gang up on me and make me the primary target, our team usually
loses.
Win or lose, its hella fun and I’ve gotten gobs of honor and honor kills
(120 or so) in the 6 or 7 times I’ve been in.

WoW post officially over.

My whole family is headed to Seattle for Thanksgiving - mom, dad,
brother, amanda (his girlfriend), sarah (my girlfriend) and myself. I’m
really looking forward to the time up there.
Trying to decide whether or not to apply at some places while I’m up
there. I was thinking I would drop by a couple businesses and drop off
my resume, try to set up appointments for interviews when I’m back up
there in January.

We’ll see.

A few things:

Phrase of the day, “It makes me want to punch them in their digital faces.”

Andy called me the other day and left me a message, he was having fun. ;)

I miss that guy bunches.

Sarah has embarked on a strange and awesome journey - reading Pride and Prejudice.
I guess that Harry Potter awoke in her the desire to pursue higher literature?
Whatever the cause, I find it extremely sexy.

My Strategic Management teacher has me on the brink of insanity with his subjective grading. I can’t handle it, seriously I’m hoping to pass this class - and by hoping I mean praying - and by praying I mean wishing for the knife.

Blah…

1.8 Patch for WoW came out today, but they are late putting the realms back up so there’s no way that I can try out the new stuff.
Chief among the additions is the respeccing of the Druid class to be (imo) the dominant class in the game.

I’ve kind of settled on a build for my talents from now till about 58 when I respec full Restoration. If you’re into this sort of thing the template can be found here.

I don’t think that I’ll be able to try it out tonight either. I have class till 8:00pm then I need to do a case study for my Strategic Management class that should take probably 2 hours, if I’m on my A-Game. After that I need to study for the midterm. So I’ll be home late and probably exhausted. Such is life.

Rufus Wainwright: Want Two

I don’t really want to write a review. Just here to say that if you love
the sultry voice, soulful and sometimes humurous lyrics of the one and
only Rufus - you can’t go worng with his latest release.

Soak it up.
